Is Streaming Video Broadcasting?

One of the things that Spider Eye gets involved in is managing a lot of servers and hosting for clients, including the Quicktime streaming server for SLCN.TV. The infrastructure serves both on-demand and live Quicktime video. The metaphor that SLCN uses for all this streaming is television, and SLCN is a television network. They're called live programs and reruns, and unlike other online video destinations there is incredible stickiness with this content. People view for minutes (even hours), not seconds. See Gary's comments about stats. Managing all the traffic is becoming a bigger issue every day.

In a world of short attention spans, there is something different going on with this streaming content. Could it be as simple as terminology and the fact that the TV metaphor is such a strong one which in turn affects users behavior when watching?
